The sign at the edge of the car park

Budgy found this sign at the edge of a car park, half sunk in a puddle. It says EARTH, and the arrow under it points wherever the person reading it actually wants to go.

For most people that is simple. A nurse coming off a night shift read it, and it pointed straight at her street. A boy waiting at the school gate read it, and it pointed at the car turning the corner with his dad inside.

When Budgy read it, the arrow pointed up and down at the same time. He stood there for a while, then sat on the bench beside it. Some days you want to be home and somewhere far away, and the sign was honest enough to show both.
